Graphic Design Theory: Project 3

I will seize any opportunity to discuss the rave community and what it means to me. It's why I started my small business, which is highlighted in my collage. What makes the rave scene stand out is the core value of PLURR—Peace, Love, Unity, Respect, and Responsibility. It’s not just a saying; it’s a culture. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned raver, you’ll find that people want you to have a good time. There’s no judgment, just expression. No competition, just connection. You’ll see the most amazing outfits, from DIY masterpieces to cozy onesies. You’ll hear uplifting cheers when the beat drops, and casual “You look amazing!” compliments shouted across the crowd. I've made some of my closest, lifelong friends through seemingly random interactions at crowded festivals or local venues.

The rave community is a reminder that joy, kindness, and connection are still very real in this world. It’s not just about the music...it’s about the people. And once you experience it, you’ll never forget the way it made you feel.

I started Katalyst Design Emporium as a way to give back to a community that has given me more than I could've ever imagined. When I entered the rave scene, it was nearly impossible to find quality ravewear that lasted multiple wears, but was also comfortable and original. My answer was to start making my own, and when other ravers asked about my outfits, I started making clothing for them too. The tagline for Katalyst is "Everybody is different, and every body is beautiful." There's an epidemic of ravewear businesses not supporting larger clothing sizes or accessible price points, excluding segments of our community. Because I'm a made-to-order, custom brand, I hope to be able to help some of the people affected by this issue. In a community where everyone is accepted, everyone should feel accepted.

  1. This post really hit home.. In my last class my professor and I had been discussing getting my sewing machines out of my storage unit so we could learn to sew. Like you have commented how hard it is to find clothes that last and ones that are comfortable. My professor and I were going to break out the machines and teach ourselves how. I'm a curvy older woman and her a younger more free-spirited gal with curves were gonna make a go at trying to make comfortable sexy clothes for curvy gals. The class was over in four weeks and we never got that far with it. I would love to get together and talk to you about some stuff.. Learn a lot about people if you read blogs..Rave On Girl!
